This week in chapel, Pastor Brenda DeVries taught on Mark 14, which takes place at Simon the Leper’s home in Bethany. During the meeting, a woman enters into the very center of the seating arrangement, and it is evident that she was not a guest. In this setting, it was not appropriate or polite for a woman to interrupt a meal. The woman proceeds to anoint Jesus’ head with nard, in a similar fashion to an anointed king. Those in the room were indignant, and they scrutinized her for her actions, but Jesus acknowledges that she has anointed his body for the burial. This woman pours out an extravagant amount of perfume, and she gives this gift directly to Jesus in total confidence.
The woman did not accept her status, but instead, she went directly to Jesus who judged her worthy. As followers of Christ Jesus, we can come to Him with everything that we have and in our brokenness so that we may be defined appropriately by Him and in Him. Listen to the full sermon below.
