Cornerstone Staff and Students Attend 18th Annual MLK Breakfast in Grand Rapids
On Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, several representatives from Cornerstone University attended a breakfast held in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at DeVos Place in Grand Rapids, Mich. Hosted by the Urban League of West Michigan, the event honored the legacy of Dr. King and celebrated the spirit of diversity in the Grand Rapids community. Local event sponsors included organizations such as Steelcase, Spectrum Health, Priority Health, Chemical Bank, Mercantile Bank, Fifth Third Bank and Comerica Bank.
Helen Harp (B.S. ’12, M.A. ’16) was honored at the event and named the recipient of the 2018 Nolan Groce Business Leadership Award. Harp is the owner of WDPW 91.9 FM, a not for profit corporation dedicated to bringing unity to the body of Christ by uplifting the Savior in music and Word ministry.
“The presence of such influential people in one room was pretty daunting but exhilarating at the same time,” said Geren Albury (B.A. ’16), a Cornerstone admissions counselor, who attended the breakfast. “I loved the straightforward ‘fireside chat’ pertaining to healthcare, education and workplace race relations. It prompted me to remain steadfast in my conversations regarding race and inclusion among my peers.”
