CU Theatre Presents "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat"

News Nov. 9, 2017

Cornerstone University Theatre launches its 2017-18 production season with five performances of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” on Nov. 16-19.

Featuring music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, “Joseph and The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” produced in partnership with stageGR, reimagines the biblical story of Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers and the coat of many colors. The show features several musical genres including country-western, calypso, bubble-gum pop and rock and roll.

“This collaboration is an exciting learning opportunity to work with members of the community,” Caroline Cahoon, CU theatre producer, said. “Typically CU Theatre shows only include currently enrolled students and some alumni. One of the things that makes this production different is being able to connect with other members of the community.”

Including 16 CU students and alumni, the cast features almost 50 individuals from members of a young children’s chorus to community members in their 60s to former Broadway star Mark Jackson, participants represent a wide range of ages.

As the performers look forward to sharing the story of mistreatment and forgiveness in the life of Joseph, audience members can expect to see lively dance numbers, beautiful costumes and a new take on a biblical story applicable to their lives today.

“Based on our great rehearsals, it’s going to be a wonderful production,” Cahoon said. “There are moments where you’ll laugh and when you’ll be very moved.”
