In the Business of Creating Lasting Change

As a economics major, you’ll understand the real-world realities of supply and demand. You’ll be equipped to understand how all human interactions relate to economics in large corporations, small businesses, political organizations, nonprofits, churches, families and more. Our economics graduates go on to provide wise economic insight to global organizations, investment firms, hedge funds, missions agencies and churches. In a world full of opinions about what fairness and equity look like, Cornerstone economists are enabled to discern when unbalanced weights and measures are being used and how to remedy such injustices in a multicultural world.

Upon graduation, our alumni will enter the workforce prepared to face financial, ethical, political and social challenges with discernment. Whether they are managing accounts for large firms or small nonprofits, developing economic forecasts or analyzing massive data sets, you will be backed by a nationally-recognized education and will graduate from Cornerstone with a passion to ceaselessly pursue the Lord and the truth about interpersonal human action in the business world and far beyond.

Specialized Knowledge

• Demonstrate knowledge of and proficiency in the terminology, theories, concepts, practices and skills specific to the field of economics.
• Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in the overall foundations of an economy as it relates to supply and demand and its impact on the domestic and world economy.
• Exhibit competency in demonstrating both reasoning and analytical skills in determining optimal outcomes in contemporary economic situations.
• Interpret and forecast economic events based on the application of your specialized knowledge.

Applied Knowledge and Collaborative Learning

• Understand the domestic and international marketplace from internal, external and Christian worldview perspectives including: market roles and realities, legal and regulatory environment, economic theory and forces, financial influences and outcomes, management strategies, price system/consumer behavior, supply/demand, domestic and international regulation/marketplace, management (four functions), marketing in contemporary society and financial/accounting statements.
• Demonstrate ethical leadership and proficiency in analyzing, organizing and executing basic business strategy through interpretive, interactive and innovative marketplace action in response to internal and external environments. This includes knowledge of analytic tools (gather/gain meaning from data), effective business communication methodology (oral, written and other industry-specific), business plan artifacts (financial, etc.), marketing strategy (five Ps), teamwork, leadership and innovation/entrepreneurship.

Intellectual Skills

• Demonstrate your ability to integrate both traditional and non-traditional cognitive skills, including analytical inquiry, information literacy, quantitative fluency and communicative fluency.
