You can’t think about Christmas without thinking about gifts. And when it comes to opening gifts on Christmas morning, children are the best! It’s so fun to watch them shout with amazement and jump for joy as they open their presents.
Speaking of gifts, imagine that you were invited to the palace of a king for Christmas. My guess is that you would go out of your way to give him a gift that would impress him and gain you favor. But what if he had gifts to give to you … which would actually seem strange since kings get gifts more often than they give gifts.
As we celebrate the royal birth of King Jesus, it’s important for us to remember that He is a King who has come with the express purpose of giving gifts to us—gifts that, when opened, light up our lives with joy and peace and a long list of other blessings.
So that we wouldn’t miss the point of a gift-giving King, God designed the announcement of the birth of this King to be done by hosts of angels filling the sky over fields of sheep proclaiming, “I bring you news of great joy … Unto you this day is born a Savior who is Christ the Lord … Glory to God in the highest and on earth peace good will to men” (Luke 2:10-13).
What could bring you more joy this Christmas than to know that this baby born as King Jesus is your Savior, sins forgiven and heaven guaranteed! And not just that amazing gift, but the gifts of peace and good will.
If you stop to think deeply about this, we too, as His children, may just shout with grateful amazement and jump for joy!
