Tudor Dixon Discusses Free Market Economics at Fall Business Breakfast

News December 14, 2023

On November 28, Cornerstone University hosted former steel industry executive Tudor Dixon during its annual fall Business Breakfast for entrepreneurs, employers, alumni and undergraduate business students. The free event featured networking over a complimentary continental breakfast and an engaging one-hour discussion that considered challenges to free market economics in the local, national, and global business environment. Dr. Jeffery Degner, assistant professor of economics at Cornerstone, moderated the conversation.

Since her Michigan gubernatorial run in 2022, Dixon has continued her influential advocacy for business owners, parents and families as an American political commentator. Co-founder of Lumen Student News, Dixon now hosts the Tudor Dixon Podcast, interviewing political leaders and communicating her hope in the American dream.

During the event, Dixon and Degner shared first-person reflections and insights on a variety of subject areas related to free market economics. Topics included the role of faith and values-based education in promoting human flourishing; the impact of government regulations and future of artificial intelligence on business growth; the crucial role of entrepreneurs as job creators in the American economy; and the responsibility that business leaders have to advance free market economics with organizational decisions that shape the national economy.

In conclusion, Dixon charged students and event attendees to rethink their assumptions about setbacks.

“I think that it’s important to remember that failure is allowed in this country, and that’s the beauty of free markets,” Dixon commented. “We can do something, and we can fail, but we were allowed to do it.”

Dixon’s visit coincided with Cornerstone’s announcement launching a new President’s Fellows program and scholarship. Beginning in fall 2024, the program will pair high-achieving undergraduates who are committed to a future of Christ-centered cultural influence in mentoring relationships with national Christian leaders. Dixon will serve as one of six national fellows in the program.
